Meteorological and geological sources have issued preliminary warnings about the possible effects of escalating volcanic activity in Ethiopia, after monitoring dust and smoke emissions from one of the active volcanic areas in the Afar region.

Reports indicate that wind movement could push light clouds of dust towards parts of southern and western Yemen in the coming hours or days.

Relevant authorities expect that some Yemeni governorates will be affected by waves of dark dust that may have volcanic effects, which could negatively affect groups most at risk, especially patients suffering from asthma, allergies and respiratory diseases.

Dust density is also likely to increase if volcanic activity continues and emissions increase.
