On Monday, November 24, 2025, U.S. President Donald Trump signed an executive order beginning procedures to designate certain branches of the Muslim Brotherhood as “foreign terrorist organizations.”
“This decree initiates a process by which certain branches or subdivisions of the Muslim Brotherhood will be designated as foreign terrorist organizations,” the decree states, specifically referring to Muslim Brotherhood branches in Egypt, Jordan and Lebanon.
The executive order notes that these branches “commit, facilitate, or support campaigns of violence and destabilization that harm their territories, U.S. citizens, and U.S. interests.”
The White House said in a statement: “President Trump is confronting the Muslim Brotherhood’s transnational network, which fuels terrorism and destabilization campaigns against U.S. interests and its allies in the Middle East. »
Observers believe that any American classification of this type could have direct repercussions on the political scene in Yemen, particularly on forces affiliated with the Muslim Brotherhood, notably the Islah party.
