After a long period of suffering and thirst, the well project, a water buoy for the villages of Al-Jarf, Rabat, Al-Hubail, Al-Rada and Al-Nasrah, is experiencing a positive transformation thanks to the tireless efforts of members of the local community and the cooperation of notables in the region. These developments come after a significant deterioration in the service for years, following the manipulation of the relevant authorities responsible for the implementation of the water project in the Al-Rubaie region, which led to the deprivation of thousands of families of their fundamental right to water.

Decisive community action

The sons of Al-Rubaie did not remain idly faced with this situation. They launched one of the most important community youth initiatives, where voluntary efforts and a sincere desire to end decades of suffering met. The villagers participated in the revival of the old water well project, relying on their simple abilities and their deep belief that cooperation is the only path to change.

Bassam Muhammad, 40, Development Knight, Izzat al-Rubaie, one of the supervisors of the initiative, “God testifies that we started this work without any personal goals. All we wanted was to alleviate the suffering of our people who were queuing for water. We started from scratch. When we entered the project room, the well room was exposed without a roof and the pump was in an almost stopped state. The young men started working without any financial or institutional support, and relied on themselves, and provided their daily meals through their personal expenses.

After a few days, a number of people interacted with the initiative and a symbolic amount was collected through an optional contribution amounting to one thousand riyals for households that could afford it. The total donations amounted to less than fifty thousand riyals. The amount was allocated to provide fuel to run the engine and meet the needs of the workers. As for lunch, we do not forget our thanks to the homes who provided us with all the food they had to support the young people.

Saeed Hussein, 35, Sheikh of Izla Al-Rubaie, expressed his deep gratitude to all the young people participating in the initiative and opened his speech by thanking them for their great efforts and spirit of volunteerism. He stressed that the presence of conscious and cooperative young people at this level in the village is a real source of pride, because they have proven that teamwork is capable of achieving impressive results despite the lack of capabilities.

The sheikh explained that the youth contacted him in the early stages of the initiative and presented him with the scale of the challenges at the well site. Immediately afterwards, he contacted the director of the directorate and a field visit was organized in the presence of the director himself. During the tour, the director was briefed about the ongoing works and efforts being made and promised to carry out a technical study to connect the water transmission pipeline from the well to the tanks and from the tanks to people’s houses, as soon as the civil works were completed.

Concluding his statement, the Sheikh indicated that everyone expects the continued cooperation of the leadership and the implementation of what was promised, until the water directly reaches people’s homes, emphasizing that this goal is the highest goal that the residents of the village have been striving to achieve since the beginning of the initiative.

Majd Ahmed Quba (29), one of the residents of the area and an activist in this initiative, explained that after the residents of the area completed the work of rehabilitating the well and completely clearing the rubble, we created a group through the WhatsApp application that brought together people from home and expatriates in Saudi Arabia, and through it, the obstacles and challenges facing the operation of the well were presented.

He added that residents of the region, especially those supporting large families, took the initiative to make their contributions, despite their simplicity, so that these first contributions would be like a “drop of water” that gives hope to everyone. Then come the contributions of men, young people, elderly people and women, each according to their abilities and potential.

He explained that these modest efforts transformed into a river of gifts, in which the highest meanings of cooperation and solidarity are embodied, establishing among the people the firm conviction that nothing is impossible in the face of a sincere collective will, after the grace and grace of God.

Quba stressed that thanks to God and the people of the area, we have laid the foundations of the water system and installed the necessary elements for the operation of the well. Today, the system has worked successfully and water has been pumped from the well to the water tanks, a step considered a significant achievement for the people of the area.

He concluded his speech by thanking and thanking all those who cooperated, took the initiative and contributed to the success of this initiative, emphasizing that this collective work contributed to providing a fundamental need and a vital service to the inhabitants of the region, and reflects the spirit of responsibility and solidarity among its inhabitants.
