First of all, what reading do you make of the current scene?
The Yemeni scene is full of complexities and great difficulties because the decision to resolve and emerge from the series of crises no longer belongs to Yemenis alone.
You can see that the attempts to reach a peaceful solution, despite the numerous meetings and negotiations that took place over nine years, failed in their implementation, not because of the lack of seriousness or sincerity of the intentions of the Yemeni parties, but because these agreements and understandings contradict what the leaders of the aggression and siege of our country want. They are the ones who are blocking options for a peaceful solution in Yemen, and they are the ones who are forcing parties to the conflict loyal to them to abandon their previous obligations, even in the simplest terms of the humanitarian record.
Add to the conspiratorial plans of some neighboring countries the agenda of Western countries and great powers, which caused the crisis of the year 2011 under the so-called Arab Spring, and who also supported the war against our country since March 2015 AD.
From day one, he did not hide his goals, as he wanted the situation to stabilize, but in a way that would achieve his ambitions of plundering wealth and exploiting and exploiting Yemen’s strategic situation in accordance with his strategic, economic and military interests.
Does this mean that the chances of a solution are slimmer than before?
On the contrary, Yemenis have proven that their will is stronger than all military weapons and all crimes of murder and destruction and that they will not accept continued suffering and fighting to satisfy the desires of internal or external parties.
There is ample evidence to support this, as demonstrated by the success of local initiatives, as well as those undertaken unilaterally to free prisoners and open roads, which take place in a context of strong dynamics and interaction.
These initiatives have made it possible to make progress in resolving the humanitarian and economic issue in a few months, something that mediations and United Nations efforts have failed to achieve for years.
Therefore, it can be said that Yemenis, just as they have written the most astonishing feats of steadfastness, are capable of finding a way out of current problems that is commensurate with their free will and what they are known to describe as faith and wisdom.
Do you think that these initiatives, if they continue, will lead to a comprehensive solution to the Yemeni crisis?
I believe this is an important step that will alleviate the suffering of citizens. This will also help build trust between the Yemeni parties and encourage them to engage in dialogue discussing all outstanding issues, free from external interference.
In your opinion, what conditions must be met to achieve peace in Yemen?
I believe that the General People’s Congress, led by Sheikh Sadiq bin Amin Abu Ras, succeeded in emphasizing from the beginning that dialogue among Yemenis was the only way to resolve all their problems and differences.
Undoubtedly, the vision of the conference that Sheikh Sadiq bin Amin Abu Ras has always called for, in terms of willingness to support all efforts leading to the establishment of a just and comprehensive peace guaranteeing the preservation of the unity, sovereignty and independence of Yemen and the withdrawal of foreign forces, is considered the most comprehensive and comprehensive of the demands of this stage. It also constitutes an extension of the honorable national positions of our pioneer organization and can be used to launch any upcoming political settlement process.
In my opinion, before starting any dialogue process, the parties must agree on the need to end the aggression, siege and fighting between them, as well as the departure of the new invaders from all Yemeni lands, because their presence means that 70% of the crisis points will remain unresolved. What is worse is that their presence increases the complexity of the situation every day, not only in Yemen, but also in the region.
The conference welcomed the UN envoy’s announcement that Yemeni parties had reached a road map to bring peace, but it appears to have failed.
The conference was clear on this issue in expressing its support for measures based on its previous vision, in addition to its call for the participation of all political forces in the dialogue.
I believe that what was included in Envoy Grundberg’s announcement last December represented a good opportunity and a strong glimmer of hope, especially since his statement was accompanied by clarification on obtaining commitments and guarantees from the Yemeni parties to resume the political process.
In fact, no internal party can be held responsible for what happened after that, because with the continuation of the barbaric Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip and its practice of the most heinous crimes of genocide and the emergence of Yemen’s position which changed the rules of the game… all this led to a change in the external position and a change in the calculations and movements of the United Nations, shifting from the priorities of the solution in Yemen to the attempt to negotiate with Sanaa to abandon the Palestinian question as a condition for sponsoring peace. talks.
What do you think are the most important challenges facing the conference during the current period and how can they be overcome?
The challenges our organization faces are the same as those facing our dear Yemen in general, because the conference was established to serve the nation and achieve, preserve and defend the highest national interests.
Any conspiratorial project hatched against our country undoubtedly targets all of its political and national institutions and forces, which requires everyone to take responsibility and work on everything that will continue to strengthen the national ranks.
In answer to your question, in recent years the conference has been exposed to numerous conspiracies, serious crises and attempts to eliminate it. However, thanks to God, then to the cohesion of its members, and thanks to the balance of political and national experiences of its leadership, represented by Sheikh Sadiq bin Amin Abu Ras, it was able to contain it and still is, despite the difficult conditions that our organization and the nation in general are going through following the war and the siege.
It can be said that Sheikh Sadiq bin Amin Abu Ras was up to the challenges that destiny wanted him to bear the responsibility of facing and managing with competence and capacity to save the conference in the most difficult stage it has gone through in its history, in addition to thwarting the attempts to tear the party apart.
There is no doubt that the tangible efforts that the conference, led by Aburas, continues to make at the national and organizational level reassure all members of our pioneer organization in the preservation of the unity of the conference, the stability of its national positions and their confidence in the ability to increasingly restore its organizational activity in the coming days, God willing.
