Yemen – Follow-ups

United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres affirmed that the Palestinian people have the right to dignity, justice and self-determination, and that these rights have been incredibly violated over the past two years.

In his speech to a special meeting in New York, on the occasion of the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People, Guterres stressed that the creation of a Palestinian state is an inherent and non-transferable right, and called for an end to the illegal occupation of the Palestinian territories, as confirmed by the International Court of Justice and the General Assembly.

The UN Secretary-General spoke of the destruction of Gaza, the killing of tens of thousands of people, mostly children and women, and settler violence in the West Bank. He called for the implementation of a ceasefire in Gaza, support for UNRWA and progress toward a two-state solution to the 1967 borders with Jerusalem as a shared capital.

Guterres described the highest number of killings of journalists and aid workers since World War II, warning that justice for Palestine requires global rights advocacy.
