It is not easy for the conscience to remain silent when purity is imprisoned behind bars, and it is not right that integrity and loyalty become accusations unfairly attached to those who commit them, as is the case of the competent education professor: Ahmed Al-Nono.

This man has been, over the decades, a brilliant role model in the field of education. He was an unquenchable candle in the path of students, a spiritual father of discipline and a model of sincerity and integrity. He was not just a teacher or administrator, but rather an exceptional educational case who left a deep mark on the souls of his students, the behavior of his colleagues, and the history of education in this country.

The arbitrary, mysterious and unjustified detention to which he is subject today, under the title of “closure of investigations”, can only be understood as a new episode in the series of attacks against honest personalities and a miserable attempt to discredit those who refuse to give in to corruption or lend themselves to it. We mentioned these facts previously without going into detail, out of respect for the institutions, but patience has limits.

Remaining silent in the face of this gross injustice is nothing other than indirect complicity and participation in the assassination of the values represented by this honest educator. How can we accept that generations of educators are thrown into the corridors of suspicion, while the doors are open to those who have made education a market of bargains and compliments?

Here we are not asking for an exception or a privilege, but rather we are raising our voice for justice, for dignity and for justice for a man whom people only knew as fair, sincere and honorable. We demand his immediate release unless clear and public evidence is presented that unambiguously and unequivocally convicts him.

We say it clearly: any attack on the reputation of Professor Ahmed Al-Nono is a direct insult to every independent educator, to every person of good conscience and to all those who still believe that the teaching profession is the most honorable profession.

We call on every zealous person, every educator, every student who knew this person, to be loyal and honorable in the face of this injustice.
