Tension is escalating in eastern Yemen’s Hadhramawt governorate in an unprecedented manner, threatening to escalate the situation militarily between conflicting forces of influence in the governorate.

Following the movement of the forces established by Amr bin Habrish, led by Mubarak Al-Awbthani, on Saturday afternoon, November 29, 2025, in the vicinity of the PetroMasila company, and their control of all points leading to the company, in response to the tribal meeting held in Ras Huwaira in the Ghail Bawazir district, which led to his removal from the presidency of the Hadhramaut Tribal Alliance and the installation of Sheikh Khalid. Al-Kathiri, as his successor, the Hadhramaut Specialized Criminal Prosecution issued an order to forcibly arrest Ibn Habrish and Al-Awbthani.

According to documents released and published on Saturday, the Specialized Criminal Prosecution of Hadhramawt Governorate issued a coercive arrest warrant against Sheikh Amr bin Ali bin Habrish Al-Ali and Mubarak Ahmed bin Bakr Al-Awbthani, for charges related to the commission of acts punishable by law according to several articles of the Penal Code and the law on combating the crimes of kidnapping and interruption, according to what is indicated in the coercive arrest order.

The Public Prosecutor’s Office ordered the Director General of Security and Police of Hadhramaut al-Sahel to immediately arrest Ibn Habrish and Al-Awbthani, even resorting to necessary legal force if necessary, emphasizing the need for security agents and public authorities to cooperate during the implementation.

Since the middle of last week, the Hadramawt governorate has witnessed an acceleration of events that threaten to explode the situation in the oil-producing governorate.

Last Thursday, the Presidential Council appointed Salem Al-Khanbashi governor of Hadhramaut governorate, succeeding Mabkhout ben Madi, with the aim of defusing the tensions reigning in the governorate. However, the level of tension further increased with successive developments since Saturday morning, which began with the removal of Ibn Habrish, followed by his control of the surroundings of the PetroMasila company, and then the issuance of the criminal prosecution’s order for his forced arrest.
