Human rights activist Ahmed Naji Ahmed Al-Nabhani called for the formation of a monitoring committee to release detainees in Sanaa.
Al-Nabhani indicated that the objective of the formation of the committee is to communicate and follow up with the authorities in Sanaa, in order to monitor the release of prisoners of conscience.
He stressed on his Facebook account that it is important, necessary and obligatory that the authorities in Sanaa are in principle open to dialogue in order to release prisoners of conscience.
He proposed that the monitoring committee be composed of representatives of the main parties: the Congress, the Reform Party, the Socialist Party, the Nasserist Unionist Party and the Ba’ath Party, a representative of the Civil Alliance for Peace and National Reconciliation and a representative of the Bar Association, to which would be added Professor Abdel Bari Taher of the Journalists’ Union.
Al-Nabhani hoped that the proposal would be accepted and that the parties and the Civil Alliance for Peace and National Reconciliation would interact to nominate their representatives to this committee.
He considered that data alone is not enough to release detainees, stressing the need for careful and continuous monitoring and to inform public opinion of developments in this regard.
