On Wednesday, December 25, 2024, the appeals chamber of the Aden Specialized Criminal Court ruled that journalist Ahmed Maher had been acquitted of all charges against him and ordered his release.

The judgment states that it became clear to the Division that all accusations against journalist Maher were baseless.
In a judgment rendered on May 28, 2024, the Specialized Criminal Court of First Instance handed down a four-year prison sentence for journalist Ahmed Maher.
Journalist Maher appealed the decision as soon as it was published and the Court’s Appellate Division acquitted him.

Journalist Ahmed Maher was arrested and forcibly disappeared by security authorities in Aden in August 2022.

Maher said he was tortured in the detention centers he was transferred to, to force him to confess to charges that had nothing to do with him.
