The Sanaa House of Representatives voted, Wednesday, September 11, 2024, on a bill amending certain articles of Law No. (1) of 1991 relating to the judicial authority.

The vote took place after a brief discussion of the report of the special commission charged with studying the project.

The Council on Tuesday referred the bill to a special committee for study headed by Council President Yahya Al-Rai.

Jurists expressed surprise at the adoption of the draft amendment in this way, believing that these were formal procedures by which the authority wanted to give legitimacy to the amendments it imposed, the most important being the appointment of figures outside the judicial authority as members.

The strange thing is that the special committee delivered its report in less than 24 hours and no draft amendment was ever approved in this way.

“Yamnat”, a parliamentary source, reported that the Council approved the draft amendment as reported by the government, with some minor amendments.
