It was announced on Saturday January 18, 2025 that journalist Ahmed Maher had been released from Aden central prison.

Close sources reported that the specialized criminal prosecution released journalist Maher, in accordance with the judgment rendered on December 25 by the criminal chamber of the court of appeal of the governorate of Aden, which acquitted him of the charges against him.

Maher’s release comes after nearly two years of arbitrary detention by a transitional force.

On May 28, 2024, the Specialized Criminal Court of First Instance sentenced Maher to 4 years in prison for participation in an armed gang.

Journalist Ahmed Maher was arrested on August 6, 2022 by a force affiliated with the Southern Transitional Council from his home in Aden.
