Aden… Judges and employees call off strike and announce agreement that meets their demands

On Sunday, September 7, 2025, judges and administrative employees of the judicial system announced the end of the general strike in progress since July 20.

A joint statement from the Southern Judges Club – Aden Branch – and the General Union of Administrative Employees of the Judiciary confirmed the return to work from next Tuesday, indicating that an agreement was reached with the High Council of the Magistracy regarding the conditions of the judiciary.

The statement explains that the decision to lift the strike coincided with the decisions issued by the Supreme Judicial Council during its meeting on Sunday, indicating that this measure reflects good faith and paves the way for the Council to begin implementing the terms of the agreement, in a way that strengthens citizens’ confidence in the institution of justice.

The club and the union said that the signed agreement represents a first serious step towards a comprehensive reform of the judicial system, revealing that the agreement includes the settlement of arrears of financial contributions to judges and administrative employees, the payment of promotions and bonuses, the modification of salary scales, allowances and insurance, in addition to the activation of the medical care fund and the creation of a fund to support and develop the judiciary, in addition to administrative and organizational reforms in within the Superior Council of the Judiciary, the Judicial Inspection Authority and the Higher Institute of Magistracy.

The agreement also provides for the review of appointment decisions in judicial bodies in accordance with legal standards, the guarantee of trade union freedoms and the cancellation of any measures or sanctions taken against judges or employees during the strike period, according to the press release.

The statement highlights that the Judges Club and the Union will continue to monitor the implementation of the agreement in accordance with its specific mechanisms, while reserving the right to resort to legal means in the event of its violation, expressing confidence in the seriousness of the leadership of the Supreme Judicial Council in engaging in the required reforms.
