China launches new competitor to ChatGPT

YNP;

The “ITHome” website, specializing in technology affairs, announced that the Chinese company Xiaomi is working on the development of a smart assistant powered by artificial intelligence, to compete with ChatGPT.

According to the website, the smart assistant “Mi Chat” and its new software will demonstrate the company’s growing capabilities in the field of artificial intelligence, as it will be available in various Xiaomi devices and services, and the assistant will work based on the large language model “MiMo-7B-RL” that the company launched earlier this year.

The site reported that the new intelligent assistant will be a strong competitor to ChatGPT, explaining that the model outperformed its competitors despite having a smaller number of parameters (only 7 billion), as it showed better performance than the “o1-mini” model from “OpenAI” and the “Qwen QwQ-32B-Preview” model from “Alibaba” in basic tests.

The website says that Xiaomi’s president previously said that the company would invest large sums of money in the development of artificial intelligence in the current year. He also revealed that the goal of the company’s engineers is to deeply integrate neural networks with the physical world.

Site experts expected the “Mi Chat” assistant to be officially announced at the Xiaomi 2025 Human Car Home ecosystem partner conference, scheduled to take place in Beijing on December 17.

In early December, the Financial Times reported that Chinese smartphone makers had begun to intensively promote artificial intelligence features as part of their competition with Apple.
