The Yemeni national youth team qualified for the final match of the Gulf Football Cup of its first edition, which is currently taking place in the city of Abha, Saudi Arabia, after its well-deserved victory, Sunday, September 7, 2025, over its Omani counterpart with two goals to zero, during the meeting which brought them together at the Prince Sultan bin Abdulaziz stadium in Mahalla, in the semi-final of the tournament.

The goals of the Yemeni team were scored by Mohammed Al-Barwani in the 44th minute and Zaid Al-Jarash in the 90th + 8th minute.

With this victory, the Yemeni team meets its Saudi counterpart in the final expected next Wednesday, after the latter surpassed its Iraqi counterpart by two goals to one during the first semi-final.

The Yemeni and Saudi teams met in the opening of the tournament in Group A, and the confrontation ended with a victory for Saudi Arabia 1-0, before Yemen beat Qatar (1-0) and Kuwait (2-1).

The semi-final confrontation was strong and exciting, as the Yemeni team imposed control for most of the match amid strong Omani defensive firmness.

The Yemeni players missed several chances, including a penalty from Adel Abbas in the 26th minute, which was saved by goalkeeper Moamen Al-Souli, before Al-Barwani managed to break the tie with a superb shot that hit the Omani goal.

In first-half stoppage time, the Omani team won a penalty that almost equalized the score, but Yemeni goalkeeper, Waddah Anwar, saved it brilliantly, ending the first half with a deserved Yemeni lead.

Yemeni control continued in the second half, despite intermittent Omani attempts which were affected by a lack of numbers after player Muhammad Yaqoub was sent off in the 19th minute.

Yemeni players missed a series of chances until substitute Zaid Al-Jarash was able to decide the match in the dying moments by scoring the second goal, leading his country to its historic first final of the tournament.
