The poet Salem Zein Adas, born in 1928 AD, in the village of Al-Waht, Lahj Governorate, and like other intellectuals and creators of that era, received his education in the well-known book from the hands of one of the religious scholars and jurists. It seems that the book has been the main and important gateway to enter a creative field such as art, poetry and various forms of creativity. Many great Yemeni intellectuals did not receive education in schools or universities, but rather left this building.

He started reciting poetry at a young age, when he was no more than twenty years old, and his poetry attracted admiration and attention in the town of Lahj, especially as he recited his poetry on the occasion of weddings. He became interested in social poetry and things related to land and agriculture. He first worked in agriculture for a while, then for 15 years as a cigarette seller, then as a juicer in Al-Houta for five years, during which he contracted pulmonary tuberculosis in 1952 AD. After that, he worked as an agent for farmers in the central market to sell produce in bulk between 62 and 63 AD.

His songs were sung by Yemeni artists such as Taha Farea and other artists, and the great artist Muhammad Saad Al-Sanaani sang for him (You are the stars of the night, you are my witnesses) and Fadl Al-Karidi (Yanawi Baadi) and the most beautiful production of the poem (There is no alternative), sung by the great giant, his lifelong friend and artist Muhammad Saad Abdullah.

And from the poem (O stars of the night, you are my witnesses)
And (from her eyes, oh, how hard the heart is + the shepherdess)
And (Ibn Zain said: “The secret has prolonged us + the dreams”)
And (in the wear of the beautiful Lahj + the land and the farmer)
And (in straw, my father, how sweet passion is + yaawi, in my way)
And (And you are grieved in his desires + Oh my heart is in mourning)
And (All of you, my heart, are wounds + Don’t settle for us, my shame)
And (all night you won’t sleep + I have a lover who sees me)
And (from the fire of passion, how often he prays, how sweet the passion is) and others

His poetry and his poems in their entirety were not separated from the reality and problems of the homeland and society, and that is why they came to express this in the truest expression of his poetry, a sweet romance charged with the pain of feeling and the fatigue of abandonment, and in it there is the music of the flow of the codes of the fall, the solution of (the calamity) and the flow of the waters of my valley: (Mujahid) and (passerby); Passing towards the Beloved without Him is an attraction, a distress and a flame.

The poet Salem Zein Adas died in 1975 at the age of 50 and his death represents a huge loss for the homeland and for the literary and cultural movement of our country, which cannot be compensated.

May God have mercy on him with the mercy of the righteous and make him dwell in the dwellings of good people in the gardens of paradise with the martyrs and the truthful.
