Farmers from the Beit Abu Atef and Bani Jalaa regions called on the central authorities in the capital Sanaa and the local authorities in Dhamar Governorate, including the local authority of Al-Hadda district, to take measures to implement the directives of the governor, the head of the local council and the general director of the district regarding the exploitation of water from the shareholders of the solar energy system for artesian wells.
The farmers explained in the appeal that the exploitation of water and farmers’ shares for years ranging from five to seven years has been done unfairly, as the water is sold without calculating its value to the farmers, as the authorities demand that the farmers pay what is left to them in the system accounts, while the profits from the sale of the water are kept in the pockets of some influential people in coordination with the Mithqal Business Foundation.
Farmers pointed out that the distribution of well operating days has changed from five days to three days among supervisors without rights, and that shareholders are refused to provide drilling accounts and solar power system invoices, and that the value of the diesel engine is calculated based on hours even if the engine is not actually present.
They confirmed that they filed a complaint before the month of Ramadan and the governor of the governorate, Muhammad Nasser Al-Bukhaiti, took the initiative to give directives to the director general of the directorate to remedy the situation, but he was rejected by the officials concerned, as they turned off their phones and refrained from coming forward to respond to the directives.
The farmers called on the relevant authorities in Sanaa and Dhamar to implement the directives, arrest the violators, open a transparent and serious investigation and submit the case to the public prosecutor in accordance with the Penal Code and Criminal Procedures and Law No. 1 of 2018 against human trafficking.
The farmers called on media professionals and human rights activists to stand in solidarity with them to implement the law and restore their usurped rights, stressing that these violations represent grave injustice and a blatant violation of the law.
