An Arab player has entered the list of candidates for “The Best” awards awarded by the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA).
Masar Club and Egyptian women’s national team goalkeeper Habiba Sabry has been nominated to join the ‘FIFA 2025’ team.
The Egyptian goalkeeper is on a list of 11 candidates for the title of Best Goalkeeper in the World, alongside big names like Kata Cole (Barcelona and Spain) and Hannah Hampton (Chelsea and England).
Habiba Sabry became the first Egyptian goalkeeper to receive this honor, an unprecedented feat for women’s football in Egypt.
Habiba was born in the Suez Governorate of Egypt. She is 19 years old and currently plays for Masar Club, who she led to win the Egyptian Women’s League title for the past two seasons.
Habiba started her career in one of the football academies, and played between the Nouba team and the Suez national team, with which she reached the Egyptian Premier League, before joining Masar.
Habiba set a record in the Egyptian Women’s Premier League, keeping a clean sheet in 21 out of 28 matches during the 2023-2024 season, according to the Egyptian press.
Habiba was also instrumental in her team winning the bronze medal at the 2024 African Champions League after beating Nigeria’s Edo Queens on penalties to be crowned the tournament’s best goalkeeper at the time.
Habiba has already been nominated for Africa’s Best Young Player award in 2024, and she continues to compete for the same award this year.
