“Document”… Hadhramaut tribal alliance transforms into militia

A document released by the Hadhramaut Tribal Alliance revealed the formation of an irregular military force affiliated with the alliance.

The document published on Sunday June 29, 2025 confirms that the Hadhramaut tribal alliance has transformed into an irregular “militia” military component.

The Yemeni constitution criminalizes the creation of military formations outside the military establishment, but what has been happening in Yemen since the outbreak of war a decade ago is the formation of security and military forces outside the military and security establishment, the latest being the irregular forces affiliated with the Hadhramaut tribal alliance.

The document reveals that the leader of the Alliance of the Tribes of Hadhramaut now has a military status, namely that of supreme commander of the protection forces of Hadhramaut, as a sort of simulation of the position of the President of the Republic, which constitutionally confers on him the position of supreme commander of the armed forces.

Thus, armed militias have spread throughout the country, and their presence comes at the expense of the presence of the Yemeni army, which has been dismantled and demobilized, to be replaced by regional, sectarian and regional militias, which creates obstacles to any future political settlement and pushes the country towards fragmentation.
